Introduction

The Enhanced Airport and Runway Team in R&D require a motivated individual to work in a technical role helping to deliver the next generation of air traffic control concepts to support tools in the departure and wake turbulence domain.

The Job

This role would work both on the future wake turbulence optimisation concepts as well as manage the wake encounter reporting of today's operation.

Key responsibilities

Provide data analysis for the development of future wake turbulence optimisation concepts.

Provide input into concept discussion based on the data analysis performed.

Help prepare and organise workshops related to concept development as well as write-up key findings from these workshops and the data analysis into SESAR2020 documentation such as the Operational Service and Environment Definition (OSED) and Validation Plan (VALP).

Review documentation produced by the team and external partners to ensure consistency within the project.

Present key findings to internal and external stakeholders.

Manage the safety reporting database on wake encounters, assimilating data from a number of sources and using investigation techniques to ensure the capture of valid and meaningful information.

Monitor trends of wake turbulence risk and to inform and guide development work on departure concepts and associated controller tools from a wake risk perspective.

Perform analysis of data within the database to provide monthly reports to operational units.

Respond to queries from internal and external stakeholders on wake turbulence issues.

Provide data analysis for the development of future wake turbulence optimisation concepts.

Present key findings to internal and external stakeholders.

Key skills

Experience in data analysis to include that from both objective and subjective data sources.

Proficient in the use of Microsoft Windows/Office environment

Use of SQL, VBA and Matlab would be an advantage.

Ability to plan, execute and produce well documented high quality technical work in a timely manner.

Proven communication and presentation skills at all levels.

Work as part of a coherent team to deliver the work but also with the ability to work on assigned tasks independently.

Knowledge of Air Traffic Control (ATC) departure operations and the influence of wake turbulence on ATC operations would be an advantage.
