Introduction

A Configuration Engineer is required to join BAE Systems in Scotstoun to work within the T26 Combat Systems Delivery Team.

The Job

Purpose of role:

Lead on process definition and implementation of Configuration Management for T26 Combat System product through integration, test, installation, trials and acceptance within the T26 Combat System Delivery Team (CSDT).

Key Outputs/Deliverables:

  • T26 CS Configuration Management Plan (subsidiary to the T26 Whole Ship Configuration Management Plan).
  • T26 CS Design Certificates for signatories
  • CS Configuration Management guidance and training material to cover aspects not addressed in T26 Wholes Ship documentation.

Responsibilities

Major Tasks and Activities:

  1. Define and document the T26 CS Configuration Management approach; associated processes; and enabling tools. Particular focus on Software Configuration and those aspects of Product Configuration [including Hardware and Software] where CS needs are not addressed by Whole Ship processes and management.
  2. Define and document the T26 CS Release & Deployment Management Approach; associated processes; and enabling tools. Particular focus on management of CS software releases from Land Based Integration Facilities to the Ship(s).
  3. Management of Design Certificates including central authoring, compilation and editorial responsibility for CS Design Certification documentation and associated data in support of the CS Technical Authority.
  4. Act as Data Steward for CS Part / Physical Design Data, drive CSDT to address Data Quality Issues (identified by the Whole Ship Data Quality Governance Team) and attend associated Data Steward Community of Interest meetings and Whole Ship Parts Board.
  5. Ensure consistency between CS Configuration Management Tool and associated tools owned by teams external to CSDT. Such as the Whole Ship Software Register Tool and the Land Based Integration Facility provider's Integration Support Equipment Register.
  6. Support Software Assurance activities and attend Software Assurance Steering Group, when required.
  7. Support audits by bodies external to T26 CSDT and conduct internal process confirmations to ensure CSDT are adhering to related CS and Whole Ship configuration processes.
  8. Provide guidance and support CS engineering community on Configuration Management through workshops and internal training/ process instructions (where not provided centrally on the project);

The Individual

Key Knowledge/Experience:

  • Understand principles of establishing engineering design baselines and Configuration Management of complex system-of-systems designs;
  • Understanding of PTC Windchill; Part and Document Management beneficial;
  • Experience in Software Configuration and Release desirable;
  • Theory and practical implementation of Product Line Engineering desireable;
  • Able to identify and articulate process improvements;
  • Engineering background, particularly relating to Naval Combat Systems, beneficial.

Company/Industry Knowledge:

  • BAE Systems policies or guidance pertaining to Change Management and Configuration Control;
  • Lifecycle Management with particular focus on Engineering aspects;
  • ITAR & RDM policies.

Qualifications:

Experience in engineering or project management discipline.
