The Job

To provide technical expertise to the Home Improvement Team in the evaluation of Occupational Therapy referrals to translate into design solutions through production of technical drawings and specifications in the facilitation of Disability Facility grants to support the disabled and other vulnerable clients through essential adaptation to their homes in accordance with the Housing Grants Construction and Regeneration Act 1996.

To evaluate OT referrals, consult and engage with key stakeholders, produce detailed designs and specifications, seek tenders, obtain OT and customer approval, advise on the appointment of contractors, monitor delivery to completion and handover.

The Selection Criteria for the post should include qualifications, relevant experience, skills/abilities and styles/behaviours essential to perform the post


Must possess a construction related degree and have post qualification experience in a similar role or can evidence minimum of 10 years service in a similar role. Member RICS, RIBA, CIOB or equivalent or working toward the status.


Must have excellent customer communication skills with the ability to work under pressure for a sensitive service, which invites challenge and requires the clear management of expectations.


Strong planning, contract and project management skills with experience in DFG policy and statutes and procedures; 'Housing Grants Construction and Regeneration Act 1996' and the discretionary grant/loan applications 'Regulatory Reform Order 2002'

Ability to plan, develop and progress projects to meet strategic targets.


Demonstrable working knowledge of the CDM Regulations, Health and Safety at Work Act, Control of Asbestos at Work Act, Building Regulations, Planning, Party Wall Act, NICEIC, and all other relevant statute.


Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills to evidence engagement with the Customer, internal and external Stakeholders, and Senior Management through issue of briefings, reports and performance related matters.


Ability to demonstrate close budgetary control through the productions of budget estimates, financial monitoring and management of risk with ability to maximise VFM and to negotiate final accounts.


Must have experience in the production of working drawings and specifications and the administration of JCT (or similar) forms of contract.


Must have an appreciation, commitment and respect for the value of equality and cultural diversity in the Borough, and behave appropriately when working in client's properties.


Must have good organisational and time management skills, be able to organise and prioritise workloads to strict deadlines for a diverse workload. To work flexibly as part of a team or independently, take responsibility and to make decisions with reference to management only on a by exception basis.


Experience of conducting measured surveys, producing specifications, technical drawings on CAD, in relation to DFG's.


Be computer literate with a working knowledge of CAD, Microsoft office and be able to grasp and solve technical / complex problems.


Demonstrate a commitment to continuous professional development.


Must hold a full and valid driving licence and provide a vehicle insured for business use in relation to the role.
