The Job

Southern Water is currently recruiting in their Engineering team for a Mechanical Engineer - working at Principal level; however we would consider more junior grades for the right candidate.


We are looking to identify a driven engineer to join the Mechanical engineering team based in their engineering hub on the South Coast in Falmer, near Brighton.

The role offers the opportunity to gain design experience on a wide variety of projects working as part of a multi-disciplinary design team with the scope to cover clean water, waste water and networks based projects. Design work will range from feasibility & outline design to full detailed design of a wide range of mechanical equipment.

You will be responsible for leading on a portfolio of mechanical innovations and developing the companies mechanical standards so that they are industry leading. As part of the role you may develop to become a national specialist on key mechanical subject areas.

You will have technical knowledge in Mechanical engineering and have water industry experience. High level problem solving and communication skills are critical, coupled with your engineering judgment to solve design issues. You must have design experience in water and wastewater treatment systems. You will either be a Chartered Member of the IMechE or be keen to work towards this, which you will be fully supported in by Southern Water.
