We are looking for a number of Junior Engineer's to work in Bristol for DE&S (part of the MOD).
The force behind the armed forces, DE&S is a highly specialised, arms-length body of the Ministry of Defence, operating with a budget of £178 billion over the next 10 years. From the procurement of fighter jets and aircraft carriers to the provision of food and clothes, we ensure the armed forces have the equipment and support they need to carry out their operations at home and abroad. We employ over 11,000 talented Civil Servants and military personnel (supported by contractors from the private sector) across more than 150 locations around the world.
The Engineering function is the largest function in DE&S comprised of more than 3,400 staff and is the most complex in terms of breadth of disciplines and specialisms. With the need to oversee the engineering of some of the world's most advanced equipment, weapons and technologies we need a wide breadth of experts, who are and remain at the cutting-edge within their field. Particular technical disciplines of interest include: mechanical, electrical & power distribution, software, sensors & electronic systems; acquisition safety & environmental protection; quality assurance; aero, nuclear, naval architecture, systems engineering & integration and ordnance munitions & explosives.
We are seeking talented engineers to join our dynamic function and organisation. We have vacancies across all areas of DE&S including Ships, Land, Air and Joint Enablers Domains so there is a wide variety of roles requiring different skill sets and experience.
In all roles, responsibilities will be:
- supporting the management of engineering technical requirements (definition, architecture, integration, contract assessment & management and change).
- collecting, collating and evaluating technical data, reviewing technical equipment and making recommendations to engineering managers.
- providing an independent perspective on innovation and technology risk in the delivery of military capability.
- contributing to Engineering plans
- applying DE&S Policy and standards.
In addition to the above, you must have the ability to help identify, formulate and solve engineering, science or technology problems.
These roles require you to have excellent communication skills and you must be able to use your judgement and have strength of character to act and to "Stop" work which is unsafe or environmentally hazardous.
Our engineers operate within a balance matrix construct, therefore, deployments to other teams/locations may be required in accordance with the Business need.

To be successful, we are looking for you to have at least one of the following:
- successfully completed an Advanced/Modern Apprenticeship
- engineering work based experience
- graduated with a degree in engineering, science or technology
Please note that candidates with other technical qualifications may be considered, especially if coupled with work based experience.
