The SDA have the need for an experienced Schedule Expert to join the Submarine Production team to offer highly specialised Scheduling expertise for high profile projects. The Submarine Production team are responsible for the vital build of submarines for the UK's defence with their projects worth approximately £1.5billion spanning over 11 years. If you like a challenge and want to develop your career this role will see you supporting a team in delivering one of the biggest programmes in the UK today.

You will be responsible for the planning and scheduling for Astute Portfolio Projects whilst providing technical guidance, training, auditing, and staffing support for the SDA. You will use your knowledge to guide and coach managers, interpret complex data and conflicting information, and strategically advise and influence senior stakeholders on complex issues. You will be responsible for presenting data and providing a Schedule Risk Analysis to senior internal and external stakeholders whilst having leadership and development duties over 3-5 Junior Schedulers, where you will be coaching and up-skilling their knowledge. Your technical knowledge and stakeholder relationship skills will need to be exemplary as you will be supporting project teams, working closely with wider SDA functions and influencing external suppliers. Your work will require you to think ahead, as well as plan, in detail, for the short term within the context of what needs to be delivered overall in the long-term project.

Some of your day to day responsibilities will include:

  • Providing input to operating plans, department budgets, forecasts and other financial reports
  • Providing direct input to business cases, strategic plans, customer presentations and contract negotiations- Providing input in developing domain and corporate policy
  • Maintains liaison across the Domain offices to coordinate workload and staffing plans
  • Auditing projects to ensure the quality of planning and scheduling functions
  • Creating presentations to management and customers
  • Developing and implementing planning and scheduling training programmes
  • Developing planning and scheduling policies and procedures
  • Serves as subject matter expert
  • Leads technical oversight and coaching in their sub-discipline

Please note there will be occasional travel required to Barrow-in-Furness

Key to your success would be your ability to apply your extensive technical expertise in Planning and Scheduling to the wider team including performing, monitoring and reviewing planning and scheduling functions to include control and analysis. Due to the nature of these projects knowledge of Planning and Scheduling within a large organisation in preferred. Knowledge of Primavera P6, Enterprise Microsoft Project, EPM2010, Earned Value Management (EVM), PRA and Risk Management would be an advantage.

This role offers the opportunity to work within a diverse and multi-disciplined team within the Submarine Delivery Agency (SDA). The SDA is responsible for the UK's submarine maintenance and build programme, a top priority of the UK's defence programme and one of the largest UK programmes in existence. Working with our key industrial partners, BAE Systems, Rolls-Royce and Babcock Marine, we are striving towards delivering submarine capability in a more cost efficient, effective and safe way.
