Our client is looking for a Highways Technician to join a busy team on a contract basis starting soon.


Highways Technician Experience

The Job

IR35 status:

This role is OUTSIDE IR35.

Key Responsibilities

Conduct feasibility studies leading to final design and implementation of schemes to current technical standards.

To prepare or assist in the preparation of technical design and contract documents

Formulate project programmes and liaison and co-ordination of stake holders to deliver project to time scale and budget.

Compile maintenance schemes / contracts and monitor progress of contracts and consultants to deliver cost effective maintenance of infrastructure.

Supervise, motivate and direct junior members of staff to promote project delivery to agreed timescale and budgets.

Liaison with: Consultants, Contractors, Head Teachers, Councillors, and outside organisations, to promote and implement smooth working of schemes.

Procurement of contractors

Appraise financial implications of schemes on overall budget with direction of line manager.

Desirable role-related knowledge, skills and experience

HNC / Degree in relevant discipline

Several years post-qualification experience

Supervision of contractors / staff

Ability to design infrastructure with limited directions

Ability to communicate at all levels

Likely working conditions - environment, and physical effort or strain

Mainly office environment - some physical effort or strain

Regular visits to sites

Ability to fulfil the travel requirements of the role.

Qualifications / Experience:

Relevant related Engineering Degree

Membership of appropriate professional body

Computer skills with experience of MS Word, MS Excel, MS Outlook and CAD software

Significant design office experience.

Sound written and numeracy communication skills able to converse with engineering professionals and the like.

Working conditions / environment:

Mainly office environment

Site visits if and when required (to live highways and construction sites)

Communicating feedback to the general public.

Ability to fulfil the travel requirements of the role.

Working hours:

37.5 hours a week

Monday to Friday

Flexible working available.

A willingness to occasionally work outside of 'normal' office hours if required.

Overtime occasionally available depending on workloads.

Pay rates:

The rate is dependent on candidate experience.
