I am currently working with a market leading biotechnology company who are looking for a facilities engineer to join a growing team.

The Job

Facilities Engineer

This position will be part of the Facilities team who are responsible for:

  • Building and plant maintenance and repair
  • Reactive and regulatory tasks
  • Laboratory equipment service and repair

Your key responsibilities:

  • Undertake a programme of planned preventative maintenance to ensure that the building, plant and equipment continues to support the operation of the building and that breakdowns are minimised
  • Undertake a daily walk round to check operation of plant and ensure that there are no obvious issues which have not been flagged by the building management system
  • Maintain air handling units - fans, filters, bearings, motors
  • Maintain water pumps
  • Maintain calorifiers
  • Maintain extract fans and motors
  • Maintain process and domestic water and carry out temperature and legionella checks
  • Maintain the laboratory vacuum system
  • Maintain the laboratory compressed air supply
  • Maintain all electrical systems
  • Undertake fire testing
  • Undertake emergency lighting and external lighting checks and maintain accordingly
  • Liaise with, book and support external contractors in maintaining:

o Gas Boilers

o Air compressors

o UPS (uninterrupted power supply)

o Fire alarm maintenance, including firetrace fume cupboard protection and server room systems.

o Air conditioning/Chillers

o Water system dosing

o Building management system

  • Undertake service/checks and/or calibrations of:

o Portable appliances

o Fixed wiring

o Fume cupboard calibration and some remedial work

o Emergency light checks and remedial work

  • Respond to plumbing issues raised
  • Respond to electrical issues raised
  • Undertake any maintenance/engineering requests, e.g. installation of shelving, door furniture issues, white boards etc
  • Undertake minor laboratory or bench modifications
  • Undertake occasional weekend or out of hours work
  • Participate in the on-call rota
  • Undertake the duties outlined above and other duties as directed by the Facilities Manager and from time to time carry out any additional tasks as may be required to support the Company

Education and Experience:

  • NVQ Level 2
  • 16th Edition Electrician, or equivalent if mechanical engineer
