Introduction

The Submarine Delivery Agency (SDA), was formed April 2017 from the Submarine Operating Centre within the MOD's Defence Equipment & Support organisation. As of April 2018, The Ministry of Defence will employ 1,200 qualified professionals.

The Job

SDA are looking for a Lead Scheduler to become a key member of the Project Controls team working on Astute Class Submarine Production. We are seeking to increase the planning capability by appointing a Project Scheduler Specialist to support the planning process and the scheduling of this project as it reaches a critical phase.

In this crucial role, your duties will encompass the following activities:

  • Being a key member of the project team guiding and coaching others on all aspects of Scheduling and Earned Value Management.
  • Delegating Schedulers to other projects.
  • Interpreting complex data and conflicting information.
  • Strategically advising and influencing stakeholders on complex issues.
  • Working hand in glove with colleagues across the project team and our industrial suppliers to define and agree how the project will be structured and delivered.
  • Provide input to operating plans, budgets, forecasts and other financial reports.
  • Direct input to business cases, strategic plans, customer presentations and contract negotiations.
  • Plan in detail for the short and long term within the context of what needs to be delivered overall

In conjunction with the necessary leadership and coaching skills that you will bring to the role, you will be instrumental in the development of our people. You will combine specialist scheduling expertise with a talent and passion for engaging with people to help ensure the growth of the planning and scheduling discipline can meet the required demands from the wider business. You will also play an important role in the production and delivery of functional training material as well as ensuring that policies and processes remain relevant and reflect recognised, good practice across both public and private sectors. This will include allocating work to members of the scheduler team.

To be considered for this pivotal opportunity, you will have extensive knowledge and a recent proven track record in a Planning and Scheduling environment with practical experience in Primavera P6 demonstrating comprehensive application of planning and scheduling tools. Proven ability in the development and coaching of planning & scheduling teams. Additionally you will have extensive practical experience with Earned Value Management tools and techniques.

You will also have the ability to challenge, negotiate and influence at all levels across the business building relationships with key stakeholders, and you will possess experience in shaping and/or influencing policy and strategy and of driving business change and workforce development.
