Combat Systems Approval Authority Engineer

This is an exciting opportunity to be a key member of the DE&S Ship Acquisition Type 26 Global Combat Ship (T26 GCS) team. The T26 GCS is a 21st Century innovative warship that will replace the Type 23 frigate as the work horse of the fleet, undertaking the Royal Navy's three core roles - warfighting, maritime security and international engagement, all on the world stage.
As the successful candidate you will undertake tasks involving the Combat Systems Integration for the T26 GCS.
Day to day you will be expected to work collaboratively in a multi-functional team of civil servants, military personnel and contractors to deliver the complex integration requirements. You will attend joint meetings with customers, the build team and the design team to represent the Combat Systems Approval Authority on a range of topics.
You will have the opportunity for regular engagement in other activity to support T26 and wider defence outputs, including formal visits to other classes of ships such as Queen Elizabeth Class (QEC) or T45.
The role will be based at Portsdown Technology Park. You may occasionally work outside in poor weather, at heights or in confined spaces, however specialist training will be provided. You may also occasionally be required to travel to other locations across the UK.
With Line Manager support, you will be required to contribute to decisions that rely on understanding the technical requirements and assessing compliance to system requirements.
Responsibilities will include, but will not be limited to the following:
- Providing engineering support or technical risk advice
- Involvement with system engineering, evaluation and performance verification
- Reviewing and assessing engineering technical requirements (definition, integration, contract assessment and change)
- Collecting and analysing technical data on in-service equipment and systems
- Producing / reviewing engineering plans
To be considered for this role you will have strong experience of working in a complex systems environment. I.e. combat systems, electronic and software based systems.
You will be educated to at least ONC level in a relevant engineering / science related discipline or be able to demonstrate substantial equivalent work experience.
You will possess excellent stakeholder engagement skills together with effective communication skills, both verbally and in writing.
