Principal Drainage Engineer
We have recieved an exciting permanent opportunity based in Bristol.
Summary of Post
You will lead a team of engineers and technicians who represent the council as Lead Local Flood Authority. The 3 main work areas of the team are
Represent the council in its role as Lead Local Flood Authority
Responsible for highway and Community space Drainage Asset Management
Represent the council in its role as Local Land Drainage Authority
The team play a critical role in assisting with the delivery of key major developments in South Gloucestershire and currently the authority is experiencing a rapid growth in new developments.
Manage both Highway and Community Space drainage assets including the co-ordination and inspection of these drainage assets. Liaise with partner agencies as necessary
Provide the Council's response to planning applications to ensure new developments comply with drainage regulations and policies. Consult with developers to agree new drainage designs and satisfy both planning drainage conditions and adoption of sustainable drainage systems (SUDS) by the Council. Provide drainage advice to the Strategic Planning team on potential new development sites.
Deliver the actions identified in the Council's adopted Local Flood Risk Management Strategy
Responsible for the delivery of the Drainage Capital Programme to ensure new drainage improvements are delivered within budget, within agreed timescales, and satisfies stakeholder requirements.
Investigate surface water and watercourse flooding incidents, report findings and co-ordinate solutions with risk management authority partners and others.
Manage Land Drainage Act ordinary watercourse consent applications and take enforcement action against unconsented land drainage works.
Respond to surface water and watercourse drainage enquiries and correspondence from MPs, Council Members, Parish Councils, other organisations, and the general public.
Provide advice to other departments and sections on drainage matters.
Carry out any other duties as required and which are commensurate with the grade of the post.
