Senior Highway Design Engineer
My client are looking for a Senior Highways Design Engineer, who will play a central role in delivering technical design solutions to Liverpool City Council and other key local clients.
The company are engaged in the design and delivery of exciting and innovative highways, transportation and public realm projects in Merseyside and across the Northwest, focused largely on the needs of our local and regional clients who include Liverpool City Council, Wirral Borough Council, Trafford Council, Merseytravel and Highways England. Examples of our current projects include:
Liverpool City Centre Connectivity Phase 1 and 2, circa £45M
Public Realm / highway improvements around Anfield / LFC, circa £4m
A41 Key Route Network Corridor Improvements, Birkenhead to Port Sunlight circa £3M
Liverpool Strategic Route Upgrade Projects, typically each £2-3m.
By working on local projects like these, as a Senior Highways Design Engineer you will have a unique opportunity to see your designs evolve through from inception to completion, through working in partnership with our Amey operations teams and gaining on-site experience.
Our Liverpool team is made up of circa 50 professionals at various levels and with a diverse experience base. Based at Matchworks, we have large modern spaces to work in with free on-site parking (or a 10 minute walk from Liverpool South Parkway) and have a progressive, flexible attitude towards accommodating work life balance and flexible working hours.
In a typical week you will:
In your role as Senior Highways Design Engineer you will provide effective support and assistance to the Highways Manager; focusing on financial, technical and commercial performance of specific highways design projects. This will also include significant input into developing the business; including of financial forecasting, budgeting, marketing and relationship building.
Reporting to the Principal Civil Engineer
Managing compliance with all relevant technical standards
You will ensure robust delivery of all the specified project outcomes on time, within budget and to a high-quality standard
You will be responsible for resolving technical issues that occur on a variety of projects and will proactively manage and monitor delivery
You will ensure team targets are met and proactively implement measures to improve performance alongside the Principal Civil Engineer
You will coach junior staff, using your technical skillset to grow and challenge the future generation, supporting them in their professional development and training
Experience / Qualifications:
Civil Engineering degree or HNC, or other relevant degree qualification of a similar status. Preferably a Chartered, or Incorporated Engineer or working towards chartered / incorporated status with the Institution of Civil Engineers
Project Management of multi-disciplinary projects
Management of staff and financial resources
Design and Construction Experience within a local and /or strategic highways and public realm environment.
Working knowledge of the DMRB and contract document preparation , including MCDHW and NEC3/4.
Sound commercial awareness
Working knowledge of CDM 2015 Regulations and other relevant health and safety legislation
Knowledge of DDA and Road Safety Audit procedures
Sound knowledge of regulatory procedures
Understanding of highway and engineering design software packages e.g Autocad, MX, Micro-Drainage, Arcady, Linsig.
Understanding of the Traffic Management Act; the Highways Act and associated Highway Regulations.
