The Job

Purpose of the Job:

Our client is a world-leader in alternative energy solutions aimed at bringing cleaner and cheaper energy to business, homes and vehicles. We are looking for a highly-motivated Engineer to join a high-performing, fast paced and expanding test team. As a Senior Test Engineer, you will directly support the development of the fuel cell technology by providing test capability for verification, validation and development testing. The successful candidate for this position will lead a small team of Test Engineers to execute test programmes safely and to schedule.

Key Role & Accountabilities :

  • Test Operations
    • Test Ceres Power Solid Oxide Fuel Cells and associated systems.
    • Support the Test Operations Manager with test scheduling and planning.
    • Develop and execute test plans.
    • Test sequence coding.
    • Installation of test units.
    • Develop processes to ensure auditable data is correctly produced and recorded.
    • Review and analyse test data.
    • Produce test reports and present findings and recommendations.
    • Provide accurate daily updates to test management.
  • Test Engineering
    • Design and development of test stands to meet reliability objectives.
    • Select and implement test execution strategies and measurement techniques.
    • Interface and communicate with internal and external customers and suppliers.
    • Lead fault finding activities, issue investigations and improvement projects.
    • Work package planning.
    • Create work instructions and standard operating procedures.
    • Create risk assessments.
    • Provide mentoring to less experienced members of the Team.

Person Specification/Core Competencies:

ESSENTIAL

  • Minimum of 4 years post graduate industrial experience
  • Ability to visualise and summarise data, perform basic sense checking, identify inconsistencies and perform basic thermodynamic calculations, e.g. efficiency, simple heat balances.
  • Ability to read and produce technical documents including mechanical drawings, electrical schematics and P&IDs.
  • BSc/MSc or BEng/MEng level in Mechanical Engineering, Physics, Electrical/Electronic Engineering, or similar.
  • Ability to produce risk assessments and other similar safety tools, e.g. HAZID, HAZOP and FMEA.
  • Ability to plan and manage work packages.
  • Sound report writing skills and the ability to communicate results and deliver presentations to colleagues and management.
  • Grasp new concepts quickly and develop a good working knowledge of Ceres Power products and their operation.
  • Delivery-focused and highly motivated, capable of handling multiple priorities and working alone as well as part of a high-performing team.

DESIRABLE

  • Industrial experience ideally gained in a fuel cell/battery company, automotive, aerospace or similar industry.
  • Working knowledge of test automation software, e.g. LabView.
  • Experience of planning and carrying out testing.
  • Experience of working with hazardous gases.
  • Knowledge of heat transfer, control systems, electronics and instrumentation
  • Knowledge of chemical and thermodynamic processes, control systems and instrumentation.
  • Chartered Engineer or on track to achieve Chartered status
  • Experience of software coding, e.g. Visual Basic, Python

Remuneration

You will receive a generous package including:
