Introduction

We are currently recruiting for a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to work in Kidlington in Oxfordshire.

The role requires an experience mechanical Design Engineer to work on design for helicopters.

The Job

We are seeking two Senior Mechanical Design Engineers the post holders will provide mechanical design solutions on a wide range of helicopters for integration of mission equipment ranging from external loads to internal cabin configuration (mission control panels, VIP interior, storage systems) as well as in-service support of existing aircraft.

The main responsibilities of the post holders will be:

  • Developing cost effective design solutions to technical and commercial requirements placed on the design office
  • Undertaking mechanical design i.a.w. the design office procedures as directed by the Chief and Deputy Chief Mechanical Design Engineer
  • Undertaking reporting or documentation tasks associated with a work package to comply with the certification, airworthiness and environmental protection requirements as listed in the Certification Plan for the modification, for which an appropriate level of understanding of applicable FAR/JAR/CS 27/29 requirements is necessary related to mechanical design
  • Providing design support to existing solutions in operation
  • To assist system investigation and bid compilation
  • To continue and develop own personal technical competence
  • Keeping up to date with changes to applicable regulatory authority legislation
  • Keeping up to date with new technological advance.

We require the post holders to have the following Education, Qualifications or special training:

  • Degree qualified or equivalent experience with a lesser formal qualification
  • Engineering Apprenticeship or equivalent training.

ESSENTIAL

Experience required:

  • Both preferably aerospace based.
    • Minimum of 10 years industry related experience in aircraft/rotorcraft
    • Mechanical design at the implementation level
    • A proven track record of technical knowledge

DESIRABLE

      • Experience of mechanical design for rotorcraft is an advantage
      • Experience of system integration for rotorcraft an advantage

Knowledge and skills required:

      • Understanding of national and international regulatory authorities standards and codes of practice and procedures.
      • Proficient in the use of CATIA V5 and AutoCAD Lt
      • Computer literate in MS Office Word, PowerPoint, Excel
      • Excellent communication skill; written and verbal.
      • Ability to communicate and negotiate internally and externally at all levels.
      • Commercially aware.
      • Team player with the ability to work effectively under pressure on multiple tasks simultaneously.
      • A reliable person capable of producing high quality documentation.
      • Some experience of leading a small team to complete design projects
      • Well developed problem solving skills and the ability to assess evidence and develop conclusions based on that evidence in a logical and structured fashion

Key performance indicators:

  • Effective communicator within the Design Office mechanical team and other internal departments
  • Efficient use of CATIA V5, AutoCAD LT and Microsoft Office tools.
  • Ability to work on own initiative from the briefing for the team leader and work specification.
  • Ability to grasp and embrace new design concepts quickly
  • Developing cost effective design solutions to technical and commercial requirements placed on the design office
  • Support department objectives
  • Ability to work overseas for short periods (2-3weeks periods)

Other Requirements:

  • Possess clear and concise communication skills working at all levels.
  • Ability to plan and prioritise workload in a dynamic business environment.
  • Be able to work effectively in cross functional teams.
