Combat Systems Engineer

Dynamic and progressive opportunities have arisen within the Submarine Delivery Agency for two engineers, one with Sensor and Electronic Systems experience and another with Mechanical engineering experience to work on the Astute and Dreadnought submarine programmes. These two roles offer the opportunity to work within a diverse and multi-disciplined team within the Submarine Delivery Agency (SDA).
The SDA is responsible for the United Kingdom's submarine maintenance and build programme; a top priority of the UK's defence programme and one of the largest UK programmes in existence. Working with our key industrial partners, we are striving towards delivering submarine capability in a more cost efficient, effective and safe way. In these roles, you will be expected to bring together the technological problem-solving capability of engineering and the organisational, administrative, and planning abilities in order to support the build of nuclear submarines.
As part of the Principal Naval Overseers organisation you will develop and deliver plans to provide technical assurance and acceptance activities to ensure the submarines meet the customer's technical requirements. You will be confident in applying engineering theories, concepts, practices, principles and approaches and help resolve technical and performance issues for systems within your area of responsibility. The assignments are an integral interface to our supply base ensuring technical solutions meet the needs and requirements of the armed forces.
Some of your day to day responsibilities could include but are not limited to:
- Witnessing conduct of Tests and Trials
- Authorising Test documentation for use and reviewing completed test documentation
- Oversight of key build processes, ensuring compliance with engineering standards
- Identifying opportunities to improve quality and reduce technical and schedule risks
- Working with a range of Industrial and MOD stakeholders to resolve technical issues
Successful applicants will demonstrate experience in the following areas and/or more generally in electronic and mechanical systems:
- Command and/or control systems
- Mission Systems
- Sonar technology and application
- Navigation Systems
- Sonar systems
- Communications systems and technology
- Electronic Warfare Systems, Weapons Systems and Effectors
- Hydraulic Systems
- Pneumatic Systems
- Sea Water Systems
- Mechanical Handling Equipment
- Firefighting Systems
Successful candidates should have an HNC in a relevant engineering discipline and able to achieve Tech Eng or IEng status with a relevant Engineering Institute. A degree in an electronic or mechanical discipline would be advantageous, but not essential.
