Our Defence Munitions staff work closely with DE&S Project teams and the Front-Line Command. In this role you will manage a team to deliver the safe and secure defence munitions outputs which include the receipt, storage, issue, and maintenance of all General and Complex Munitions used by the UK armed forces to train, protect, and serve anywhere in the world. You will help ensure that our troops have the right items at the right time.

You will Interact with a wide range of internal and external customers and stakeholders, both military and civilian, including contractors, where your strong communication, influencing and leadership skills combined with a calm, collected and collaborative, yet robust, manner will help you succeed in this role.

We will train you with the skills required to become:

  • a Weapons, Ordnance, Munitions, Explosives (WOME) operative.
    * a fuel manager - for the depot's diesel fuels and dispensing pumps, to manage the lubricant levels and carry out procuring, storing & issue and receipt of both gas and fuel oils Including the management and disposal of hazard waste material and paint store.
    * a Building Custodian able to carry out building monitoring and reporting all infrastructure faults under the Warehouse Manager areas of responsibility.

    The working hours for this position are: Monday-Thursday 07:45 - 16:30, Friday 07:45 - 12:45. More flexible working may be available after completion of the 6 months probation period.

    Before taking up the position, you will be required to pass medicals for both -
  • Material Handling Equipment
    * Skin and and respiratory

Responsibilities

In this role, you will be entrusted with:

* Managing a small team of 7 staff, directing work, monitoring performance, managing disciplinary matters as well as accounting for absence and leave.
* Once trained - responsibility for the fuel/paint spill response team, ensuring staff are fully trained and aware of their environmental responsibilities when responding to all depot incidents.
* Ensuring your team comply to safe systems of work and risk assessments, updating and revising these as appropriate.
* Ensuring facilities are correctly prepared, set up and compliant with explosives and other regulations.
* Promoting and actively encourage continuous improvement, lean processing initiatives across your area
* Managing and controlling all Warehouse Receipt and Issue associated tasks with Explosive and non-explosive movements and ensuring that all regulations and safety standards are maintained and adhered to, in accordance with Defence Safety Authority.
* Providing technical / planning advice to senior managers, stakeholders, and contractors in support of agreed outputs and commercial contracts.
* Liaising with the planning/technical teams at DM Beith to ensure that resources are fully optimised, and the weapons fleet is fully maintained ensuring a seamless flow of materials to and from the customer.
* Remaining flexible to undertake other Logistics management activities as directed by Senior Management in support of agreed outputs.

Please note: There will be occasional travel to other locations across the UK which may involve an overnight stay.

What you will be assessed against

To be successful with your application you must demonstrate that you meet the following essential criteria:

  • Full UK manual driving licence
    * Knowledge and understanding of warehouse and/or logistics operational environments
    * Proficient in IT systems, especially Microsoft Word and Excel
    * Experience of managing staff and resources adhering to quality controls, standards, and policy
    * Demonstrable Stakeholder management skills, at all levels, internal and external
