The Job

Within the P-8A Poseidon team, you will be part of the Security Engineering Desk, working on a project of unparalleled importance to the security of the UK. Your work will support our multi-role maritime patrol aircraft, equipped with sensors and weapons systems for anti-submarine warfare, as well as surveillance and search and rescue missions.

This post will allow you to base yourself out of either MOD Abbey Wood or RAF Waddington.

Please note that due to its secure nature, this post is open to sole UK nationals only, and the successful candidate must be willing and able to undergo Developed Vetting in-post.

Responsibilities for Security Engineer

As a Security Engineer within P-8A Poseidon, you will support the P-8A Security Manager, while ensuring the efficient use of resources is made available. Other responsibilities will include:

- Ensuring that relevant security policy is correctly applied
- Supporting the accreditation process within the programme
- Assisting the programme in the production of the Risk Management and Accreditation Document Sets and any supporting documentation and evidence
- Supporting and monitoring the process of accreditation through the life of the service or system ensuring that security risk is appropriately managed by the Safety Working Group
- Preparing and maintaining the Privacy Impact Assessments, providing advice and liaising with Defence Security and Assurance Services regarding requirements and compliance
- Ensuring appropriate evidence is generated to inform whether information security risk is being appropriately managed to support decisions at key milestones
- Supporting the programme manager in the formulation of a mitigation plan for identified risks
- Drafting, submitting and tracking of Risk Balance Cases
- Drafting and maintaining Project Cryptographic Plan
- Ensuring that members of the Safety Working Group can raise and obtain resolution to difficulties affecting successful accreditation
- Informing appropriate stakeholders of the decisions made by the Safety Working Group

What you will be assessed against

To be successful with your application you must demonstrate that you meet the following essential criteria:

* You will hold a minimum of a Level 4 (e.g. HNC) qualification or in a relevant Engineering/Science discipline or will demonstrate an equivalent level of experience
* You will be a Member of a relevant professional body or have the ability to obtain Membership within 12 months of taking up the post
* You will hold Incorporated Engineer status or demonstrate the ability to achieve this within 12 months of taking up the post
* You will have experience of providing technical advice and delivery of successful engineering outcomes
* You will have technical experience in Information Assurance in a variety of contexts
* You will have a background of managing cryptographic material

In addition to the responsibilities above, the following technical competencies and behaviours will be assessed at interview:

* Communicating and influencing
* Making effective decisions
