Matchtech football stars help raise £1000 for PICU
Matchtech1 storm to victory to retain their title to once again win MAA’s annual PSP Southampton Boat Show 5-a-side football tournament.
Matchtech1 was one of 10 teams competing in the second annual 5-a-side football tournament for the PSP Southampton Boat Show staff and exhibitors. They met with Peters and May in the final and managed to claim the Marine Advertising Agency trophy with a 4-2 victory on Tuesday Evening. Special mention goes to our top goal scorers of the tournament, Ben Hamlin and Scott Cooks who totalled 7 goals each.
The competition took place in aid of the Paediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) and G4 Surgery at Southampton General Hospital. Ben Hamlin, Senior consultant at Matchtech, said, “ We are delighted to retain the trophy for the second year running and more importantly we are pleased that the tournament has raised so much money to help support the important work of PICU.”
Marine Advertising Director, Mike Shepherd, said the tournament had raised a total of £1,000 for PICU and the G4 Surgery at Southampton General Hospital; “It was great to see so many people turn out to play in aid of such an important cause. There was plenty of friendly rivalry, which made for an exciting competition. I’d like to thank everyone who took part for making it an enjoyable and successful evening.”
Southampton is the lead centre for Paediatric intensive care in South Central England with a catchment area that stretches from Dorset to Surrey to the Channel Islands. PICU is currently funded for 11 beds and treats over 900 patients per year, admitting children from birth to 18 years with both medical and surgical problems.
