Nuclear New Build
The UK is about to embark on a Nuclear renaissance, with the UK government approving EDF’ Hinkley Point C project. This project has an estimated cost of £18bn and is the first of many to be built in the UK, to ensure we “keep the lights on”.
The nuclear new build programme will be looking to attract the best engineers across the whole project life cycle. Our specialist nuclear team will be looking for candidates who have a background in Civil, Mechanical and Electrical engineering from a design and site perspective. Our clients will also be looking for expertise in Project Controls (Planning, Risk, Estimation & Cost) and Project Management.
Whilst nuclear experience is preferred, consideration will also be given for those candidates who have worked in a highly regulated industry.

About Nuclear New Build
The following sites have been identified for the UK’s Nuclear New Build program:
- Bradwell, Essex
- Hinkley Point, Somerset
- Oldbury, south Gloucestershire
- Sellafield, Cumbria
- Sizewell, Suffolk
- Wylfa, Isle of Anglesey
Hinkley Point C in Somerset, financed by EDF Energy and a Chinese consortium, will begin the renaissance. Each power station will require around £4 billion investment, and will rely on a work force of around 25,000 at its peak during construction. 900 operational jobs per site will be created once construction has been completed.
With an aging nuclear workforce; EDF, NuGen and Horizon will all be investing heavily in the up skill of engineers who lack nuclear experience. Matchtech is working in close partnership with the Nationals Skills Academy for Nuclear, who is helping organisations and individuals obtain the necessary skills to work within the nuclear arena.
Matchtech's nuclear consultants are already placing candidates into pre-build and design teams within the leading organisations involved in bringing the UK affordable and CO2 efficient energy. We will also have a mix of temporary and permanent opportunities for each stage of the project lifecycle including construction, commissioning, operational and decommissioning stages.
The Nuclear New Build program will create opportunities across the following disciplines:
- Planning and Project controls
- Legal and Financial Services
- Project Management
- Engineering Design
- Building and construction
- On-site / Off-site erection and fabrication
- Operation and site management
- Waste management
