Job description
Our client is currently seeking a skilled Planning Officer to join their team on a contract basis in Somerset. This role involves managing a diverse and complex caseload of planning applications, offering critical support in development management and town planning.
Key Responsibilities:
- Processing and managing a varied and complex caseload of planning applications, including major development projects
- Negotiating with developers and their agents to achieve optimal outcomes
- Drafting detailed reports for Planning Committee and delegated decisions
- Providing support and guidance to officers handling planning applications
- Undertaking monitoring, compliance, and other planning functions within agreed timescales
- Preparing appeal statements and representing the Local Planning Authority as an expert witness during hearings and public enquiries
- Defending the Local Planning Authority's decisions in connection with planning and enforcement appeals
- Responding promptly to enquiries from developers and the public, ensuring services are efficient, reliable, and comply with relevant legislation and policies
Job Requirements:
- Experience in development management and town planning
- Strong understanding of relevant legislation, policies, and procedures
- Proven ability to negotiate and communicate effectively with developers, agents, and the public
- Excellent report writing and presentation skills
- Ability to manage a varied and complex caseload efficiently
- Experience in preparing appeal statements and acting as an expert witness
- Strong organisational and time management skills
