Role details:
Our client, a leader in the Defence & Security sector, is currently seeking a Contract Equipment Proving Engineer to join their dynamic team in Stevenage. This opportunity is crucial for shaping innovative RF module designs and involves both hands-on testing and characterisation of complex systems. The role requires a blend of RF design knowledge, SimuLink, and MATLAB skills.
Key Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with systems and RF design engineers to understand functional and performance requirements and translate them into a suitable test approach.
- Develop MATLAB code or other options to automatically characterise & verify Equipment Under Test.
- Create bespoke test tools, including hardware rigs and automated test frameworks.
- Develop and maintain verification procedures, test cases, and acceptance criteria in collaboration with systems, software, hardware, and firmware teams.
- Conduct proving activities in a laboratory environment to verify and characterise equipment performance and functions.
- Analyse and interpret test data, investigating anomalies and working with design teams to identify root causes.
- Prepare clear, concise, and technically robust evidence to support equipment design verification.
- Support design reviews and stakeholder engagements with test findings and technical insight.
- Contribute to the continuous improvement of proving processes, tools, and methods.
- Engage with the design teams and stakeholders through reviews and frequent interactions.
Job Requirements:
- Experience in MATLAB / SimuLink test harness code writing or programming with structured techniques.
- Proficiency in constructing equipment module bench rigs with test equipment and computer-driven test scenarios using MATLAB or other programming languages.
- Ability to interpret equipment requirements accurately.
- Competence in synthetic data and signal injection.
- Proficiency in MS Office, capable of writing procedures, diagrams, plans, and documenting code & test setups.
Experience Advantageous & Developed in the Role:
- Use of RF-based lab test-equipment.
- Understanding and interpretation of Functional Interface Descriptions.
- Experience in integration activities: testing with multiple equipment modules.
- Familiarity with environmental chamber testing (including electromagnetic compatibility, thermal).
- Ability to read system schematics, electrical diagrams & equipment circuit diagrams.
- Development of tests that exercise as much of the hardware, software, and firmware as possible.
- Familiarity with tools such as SAP, PLM/Windchill, DOORS NG/ETM, Rhapsody, Jira.
- Awareness of Model-Based System Engineering processes and methods, including requirements, modelling, and simulation, and how they relate to integration and verification methods.
