Job description
Planning Manager - Transmission & Distribution
Our client, a recognised leader within the UK's Transmission & Distribution sector, is seeking an experienced Planning Manager to strengthen their project delivery capability. This senior position plays a pivotal role in the effective leadership, management, and ongoing performance of the planning function supporting high-profile electric transmission projects nationwide. You will ensure that all planning resources, systems, and processes are robustly developed and aligned with industry best practice, driving the successful delivery of complex infrastructure works in full compliance with regulatory and client standards.
This position does involve some travelling to multiple offices across the UK and looking after a well established planning team across the UK.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead and develop a high-performing team responsible for delivering complex planning and scheduling services.
- Oversee the establishment and maintenance of robust programme reporting and monitoring systems.
- Manage programme controls using Critical Path Methodology (CPM) and other advanced planning techniques.
- Work closely with Estimating, Quantity Surveying, and Document Control teams to ensure integrated cost and schedule management.
- Facilitate collaborative planning workshops with internal and external stakeholders.
- Ensure project schedules meet NEC contract obligations, client expectations, and current industry standards.
- Build and maintain productive relationships with clients, contractors, and delivery partners.
- Provide strategic guidance on team recruitment, professional development, and retention.
Candidate Requirements:
- Proven experience in a senior planning role within major infrastructure or energy projects.
- Prior management or leadership experience within a planning department.
- Advanced proficiency in Primavera P6.
- Strong understanding of time impact analysis and forensic planning.
- Solid working knowledge of NEC3 and NEC4 (ECC) contracts.
- Degree qualified in Engineering, Construction Management or a related discipline, or equivalent professional experience.
- Hands-on background in planning for engineering, procurement, and construction activities, ideally for high-voltage substations or related electrical works.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, with the confidence to work autonomously and make informed decisions.
