Job description
The Workshop Supervisor is responsible for overseeing day-to-day workshop operations, managing the workshop team to ensure the efficient execution of projects while maintaining high standards of quality and safety. This role supports the Production Manager in ensuring production schedules are met, resources are optimally utilized, and team members are aligned with project requirements and company standards.
Roles and Responsibilities:
Operational Responsibilities:
- Supervise and manage daily workshop operations to meet production targets and timelines.
- Interpret engineering and fabrication drawings, providing clear guidance to the team to ensure accuracy.
- Monitor production progress, proactively identifying and addressing issues, and offering technical support to team members as needed.
- Conduct daily "plan of the day" meetings to communicate project requirements, team objectives, and key performance indicator (KPI) expectations.
- Inspect and verify completed work to ensure compliance with project specifications and quality standards.
- Track daily production hours and ensure adherence to planned schedules.
- Distribute task packs to team members, ensuring clarity in scopes of work and responsibilities.
Process Improvement:
- Identify bottlenecks and inefficiencies on the workshop floor, collaborating with the team to implement practical, streamlined workflows.
- Lead by example in adopting new methods and techniques, demonstrating their effectiveness to encourage team buy-in.
Quality Assurance, Health, Safety, and Environment (QAHSE):
- Promote a "right first time" approach, providing guidance to team members to correct errors in real-time.
- Ensure adherence to ISO standards, welding codes, and quality protocols, addressing non-compliance directly on the shop floor.
- Lead by example in promoting safe working practices and ensuring the team's adherence to all QAHSE standards and regulations.
People Management:
- Train, mentor, and motivate team members to ensure high-quality work and productivity.
- Foster a collaborative and respectful working environment.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Proven leadership and team management experience, with the ability to train, mentor, and motivate team members.
- Extensive experience in welding and fabrication techniques, including core welding processes (MMA, TIG, MIG/MAG, FCAW) and fabrication techniques (pipefitting advantageous).
- Strong understanding of quality checks and documentation to ensure work meets the required specifications and standards.
- Excellent communication skills for team coordination and project updates.
Qualifications and Experience Requirements:
- Minimum 5 years of experience in welding and fabrication.
- Desirable: NC/HNC in Welding and Fabrication or equivalent.
- Practical experience in core welding techniques (MMA, TIG, MIG/MAG, FCAW).
- Practical experience in core fabrication techniques (pipefitting is advantageous).
- Clean UK Driver's License.
