About the Role


Our client, a leading Minerals and Waste Planning Authorities in the Country, is seeking a highly motivated individual to join their Planning Services team as a Planning Manager on a contract basis. In this role, you will have the opportunity to make a significant impact by helping to lead the Council's applications service. Reporting to the Head of Planning, you will be responsible for effectively delivering the applications function and supporting the Council's statutory functions. Additionally, you will play a crucial role in the protection and enhancement of the natural, built, and historic environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the applications function, handling complex planning applications and advising on enforcement issues
  • Manage the Development Management function, including planning applications for Minerals, Waste, and Council Developments
  • Provide professional leadership to ensure development management is in accordance with legal requirements, Government and County policy, and sound professional practice
  • Represent the Council at Planning and Regulation Committee meetings, public inquiries, examinations, hearings, and public meetings
  • Manage staff and ensure professional excellence, while supporting the development and delivery of Service/Business Plans
  • Monitor, manage, and report on performance, workload, financials, and risk management
  • Lead the transformation of application processes and procedures
  • Contribute to shaping minerals and waste policy work and participate in Nationally Significant Infrastructure Projects

Job Requirements

  • Knowledge or interest in minerals and waste planning
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work effectively in a political environment and identify service priorities
  • Experience in managing teams and projects
  • Detailed understanding of development management practices, policies, and procedures
  • Genuine interest in minerals and waste planning, wider planning matters, and the environment
  • Confidence in interpersonal interactions and excellent customer service skills
  • Strong influencing and negotiating skills
  • Flexible approach and creativity in promoting partnership working
