Job description


As an Operational Engineer, you will report to the Lead Operational Engineer and work within UK Power Networks Services Projects East. With a strong focus on safety and operational excellence, you will be responsible for carrying out work on DNO and private networks across UKPN's EPN and SPN regions, primarily at the 33kV level but also including work at 11kV.
Your main responsibilities will include assisting the Lead Operational Engineer, managing substation and cabling construction and maintenance works, ensuring safety management, and completing construction and maintenance activities in a safe and efficient manner. You will collaborate with other Engineers, Technicians, Apprentices, and Contractors to deliver projects and maintain electricity supplies for our clients.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver construction and maintenance projects for large and medium-sized infrastructure, connections, and CiC schemes.
  • Manage construction and maintenance programs for UK Power Networks Services owned assets across various voltage levels.
  • Work with the Lead Operational Engineer to ensure timely and budget-compliant delivery of projects.
  • Collaborate with Technicians, Jointers, and Apprentices to complete engineering activities.
  • Assist in budget management related to construction and maintenance.
  • Contribute to the achievement of UK Power Networks Services' goals, particularly in terms of staff and client satisfaction.
  • Follow operational and procedural guidelines of both the client and UK Power Networks Services.
  • Operate and test HV and LV Distribution Protection Systems.
  • Ensure compliance with health and safety policies and CDM regulations.
  • Update the asset database and perform fault investigation and repairs.
  • Oversee contractors and staff working on-site and maintain safety and environmental awareness.
  • Undertake additional activities assigned based on job level and competency.
  • Willingness to travel within the UKPN footprint.

Job Requirements:

  • SAP experience.
  • Significant experience in working with 33kV and 11kV electrical systems.
  • HNC level qualification in Electrical Engineering or equivalent experience.
  • Working knowledge of HV distribution systems.
  • Ability to read and understand technical drawings.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office suite, including Outlook and MS Project.
  • Full driving licence.


Desirable:

  • Broad understanding of UK Power Networks Services businesses.
  • Knowledge of UK Power Networks Services PC&G process.
  • Relevant Safety Qualification such as IOSH or NEBOSH.
  • Knowledge of Construction Design and Management Regulations.
