WSP UK Limited is seeking a Design Engineer (Fit-out and Refurbishment) to join their team on a contract basis. This role focuses on buildings and rail sectors, with a primary focus on retail fit-out and refurbishment, especially high-end retail in historic buildings. The position is based in London and demands a flexible approach to working hours, including potential night shifts and weekends.
Key Responsibilities:
- Experience in retail fit-out and refurbishment, particularly high-end retail in historic buildings
- Reviewing contractor's fit-out information, design, and assessment of existing structures
- Liaising with the Client and contractor, preparing fee proposals and project documentation
- Collaborating as part of a busy and friendly project team
- Conducting site visits from 8 am in Central London, with potential early finishes; must be prepared to come into Central London every day if required, including Fridays
- Conducting occasional Saturday site visits, typically from 8 am - 10 am (before store opening)
- Providing occasional Bank Holiday cover and late-night visits
- Traveling to sites including Heathrow, Gatwick, and other Airports, as well as other retail locations within striking distance of London, e.g., Milton Keynes, Lakeside
- Working from home on occasion, but predominantly attending site visits and coordinating with the project team at the WSP office
Job Requirements:
- Experience in civil engineering with a focus on building and rail sectors
- Proven experience in retail fit-out and refurbishment, especially in high-end retail within historic buildings
- Ability to review and assess contractor's fit-out design and existing structures
- Effective communication skills for liaising with Clients and contractors
- Strong organisational skills for preparing fee proposals and project documentation
- Willingness to work flexible hours, including potential nights and weekends
- Ability to conduct regular site visits and coordinate with the project team on-site and in the office
