This position is ideal for someone who combines deep technical expertise with leadership experience, and who thrives in a dynamic, expanding engineering environment.

Key Responsibilities:


  • Act as a subject matter expert in circuit design, PCB development, and component selection, with hands-on involvement in areas such as EMC, power management, servo control, processor interfaces, and communications.

  • Provide architectural oversight of power and signal transmission across wired systems, including power management, system wiring, and an understanding of relevant production processes.

  • Set high standards of engineering practice within projects, demonstrating leadership by example and offering deep domain knowledge.

  • Identify and drive process improvements and innovation across the engineering function.

  • Engage regularly with senior stakeholders, including management and customers, to maintain focus on both tactical delivery and strategic development.

  • Take the technical lead in R&D initiatives, contributing advanced expertise to technology development projects.

  • Provide leadership for multi-disciplinary project teams, promoting a systematic and solution-focused engineering culture.

  • Support resource planning activities and contribute to workload distribution across project teams.

  • Provide line management support to sub-team members, including mentorship, training, and professional development guidance.

Skills & Experience


Essential:


  • A strong degree in electronics or a related discipline, accredited by the IET (or equivalent), with typically 6+ years of relevant experience.

  • Demonstrated experience leading or supervising engineering projects or teams.

  • Solid theoretical and practical grounding in electrical and electronic design.

  • Capable of conducting analysis-based activities such as circuit simulation, power and performance budgeting.

  • Ability to identify and mitigate technical risks, and to manage project schedules and critical design activities.

  • Understanding of the full engineering lifecycle, from bid and proposal development through to customer support.

  • Proven track record of innovation and a problem-solving approach to engineering challenges.

  • Strong diagnostic and fault-finding skills at PCB and system level, with a methodical approach to root cause analysis and process improvement.

  • Chartered Engineer status (or working towards Chartership).

  • Experience in mentoring, managing or guiding other engineers.

  • Proficiency in embedded software design, particularly with ARM/KEIL environments.

  • Practical knowledge of EMC compliance, particularly to military standards.

  • Familiarity with motor and drive systems, including performance calculations.

  • Understanding of control system performance and the ability to clearly explain these principles to team members and stakeholders.

  • Experience with simulation and analysis tools such as Python, MATLAB, Simulink, LTSpice, or Simetrix.

  • Skilled in project and engineering management tools (e.g., JIRA, Confluence, MS Project).

  • Proficient with PCB design tools like Altium and OrCAD.

  • Understanding of design resilience techniques, including FMEA.

  • Awareness of design for harsh environments, including lightning protection and ruggedised systems typical of military applications.
