Obsolescence Manager - Component Engineering

This is a rare and exciting opportunity to take the lead in developing and delivering our clients Component Obsolescence strategy - defining best practice, driving improvements, and ensuring our products remain at the cutting edge of reliability and innovation.
You'll work across a broad portfolio of complex products, collaborating with a wide range of stakeholders and influencing how the client manages its components throughout the product lifecycle.
The Opportunity
Due to growing demand and increasing volatility in global component markets, particularly within the electronics industry our client is expanding its UK Component Engineering Team. They're looking for an Obsolescence Manager to strengthen our capability and ensure continued compliance and resilience across our supply chain.
In this role, you will:
- Lead the review, development and maintenance of the obsolescence management processes.
- Proactively and reactively manage the obsolescence status of thousands of components across our missile and support equipment designs.
- Provide expert advice and reporting to design, equipment and portfolio teams.
- Collaborate closely with Component Engineers to analyse supplier data and trends.
- Influence decision-making by promoting robust and coordinated obsolescence management practices.
- Share your expertise through design reviews, training and mentoring activities.
- Contribute to international obsolescence initiatives, helping to define and implement best practices across global teams.
What We're Looking For
- Proven experience or strong knowledge in obsolescence management, tools and techniques.
- Understanding of BS 62402:2001 requirements.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Ability to produce clear, concise, and professional engineering documentation.
- Strong stakeholder management skills with a collaborative mindset.
Desirable Skills
- Experience with tools such as Matrix PLM, SAP, Silicon Expert, or IHS.
- A background in component or electronic engineering would be advantageous.
