Senior Motor Control Systems Engineer

Location: Stevenage
Working Pattern: Hybrid - typically 2-3 days per week on-site

About the Role

We are seeking a Senior Motor Control Systems Engineer to join a multi-disciplinary engineering team. In this role, you will own the design, development, and validation of advanced motor control algorithms, ensuring that system performance requirements are successfully met.

This is a great opportunity for an engineer with a strong background in motor control and system modelling who enjoys seeing designs progress from concept through to proven performance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop control algorithms for both analogue and digital systems, typically for BLDC motor control.

  • Model systems and perform performance analysis of control algorithms.

  • Derive sub-system requirements for mechanical, electronic, and software elements.

  • Identify suitable electro-mechanical components (motors, feedback sensors) and collaborate with suppliers where required.

  • Define and execute design proving plans, testing, and subsequent data analysis.

About You

Essential skills and experience:

  • Proven experience in designing and developing digital control algorithms.

  • Skilled user of MATLAB/Simulink and Embedded Coder for algorithm generation and system deployment.

  • Ability to model complex real-world systems, including feedback sensors, motors, drivetrains, and drive electronics.

  • Strong communication skills with the ability to collaborate effectively across technical disciplines.

Desirable skills:

  • Experience deriving sub-system or component requirements from customer specifications.

  • Knowledge of motor control strategies such as Field Oriented Control (FOC) or Space Vector PWM (SVPWM).

  • Familiarity with DO-178C or DO-331 standards and code generation processes.
