Role details:

Our client, a leading defence company, are looking for an experienced Shipping Officer to join their team on a contract basis. This role is pivotal in ensuring the timely and efficient handling of import and export shipping operations, including complex export/customs documentation.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Prepare export documentation and will have good knowledge of incoterms, tariff codes and CPC codes.
  • Liaise with the export control team, local customs officers, and freight forwarders.
  • Deliver a benchmark export and shipping service to the business.
  • Arrange and oversee all export shipments from site to global destinations by road or air.
  • Create and manage documentation required for export deliveries, including transport documents, hazardous goods notes, customs formalities.
  • Ensure topicality of Export Register, Transport Registers, Hazardous Goods Register.
  • Arrange UK and International transport movements. This also includes liaising closely with Security and Export control departments.
  • Assist Export Control Department in compliance with regards to Export Licences.
  • Maintain topicality with all transport legislation up to and including prohibited product level.
  • Identify process improvements to create an efficient and cost effective service.
  • Day to day knowledge of all movements from site.
  • Keeping up to date with the archiving and scanning.
  • General day to day housekeeping, ensuring any required administrative duties are completed for each shipment, ensuring we are audit compliant at all times.
  • The successful candidate would be expected to undertake Known consignor training and remain compliant to the controls put in place.

What we are looking for in you:

  • Experience in export/customs, with robust knowledge of export legislation
  • Experience preparing paperwork for export
  • Proficient in SAP and strong knowledge of Excel and Microsoft applications
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Organised with excellent time management skills
  • Ability to work under pressure and adapt communication style for effective service delivery
  • Experience within an engineering/manufacturing organisation
