Our client is seeking an accomplished Programme Director to lead the delivery of a major rail infrastructure programme. This is a high-profile, complex project involving heavy civil engineering works and multi-disciplinary interfaces across rail systems, structures, and stations. The successful candidate will be responsible for the strategic leadership, execution, and commercial performance of the project from inception through to completion.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide overall leadership and direction to the project team, ensuring alignment with programme objectives, safety standards, and client expectations
  • Oversee planning, design, procurement, construction, and commissioning phases
  • Manage stakeholder engagement, including clients, contractors, regulatory bodies, and local communities
  • Ensure robust governance, risk management, and compliance with contractual obligations
  • Lead a multi-disciplinary team across civil, structural, M&E, signalling, and systems disciplines
  • Drive performance against KPIs for safety, quality, cost, and schedule
  • Champion innovation, sustainability, and best practice in project delivery

Ideal Candidate Profile:

  • Proven track record as a Project Director or Senior Project Manager on large-scale infrastructure projects, ideally within the rail sector
  • Strong background in heavy civils (e.g., earthworks, bridges, tunnels, structures)
  • Demonstrated experience managing multi-disciplinary teams across complex interfaces
  • Deep understanding of rail standards, safety regulations, and delivery models (e.g., NEC, alliancing, D&B)
  • Exceptional leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills
  • Degree-qualified in Civil Engineering or related discipline; chartership (e.g., CEng, MICE) preferred
