Our client, a leading firm in the aerospace sector, is currently seeking a Compliance Analyst to join their team on a permanent basis.
Key responsibilities for the Compliance Officer role include, but are not limited to:
Act as the legal representative between the company EAI and the French Export Control Authority to ensure compliance with all regulatory requirements for the control, storage, sale, and export of military components.
Establish, implement, and maintain procedures to ensure compliance with European Customs regulations, International Trade laws, and other applicable French government agency regulations (including Ministry of Armed Forces and Department of State).
Provide expert support for internal teams regarding import and export requirements for civilian and military aircraft parts.
Classify aircraft parts and components using Harmonised Tariff Schedule (HTS) and other applicable coding systems to ensure correct international shipment processing.
Ensure all shipments adhere to the Export Administration Regulations (EAR) and the Arms Export Control Act (ITAR), including final compliance checks before export.
Oversee and manage international tax law implications for exports, ensuring full compliance with destination country requirements.
Coordinate and maintain robust record-keeping systems in accordance with EU, French, and international customs regulations, including licenses, amendments, and shipment documents.
Interface with customs brokers, suppliers, legal counsel, government agencies, and internal stakeholders to ensure seamless logistics and compliance coordination.
Validate and track the lifecycle of export control licenses: expirations, renewals, amendments, and terms related to pricing, quantities, and destinations.
Conduct and support internal and external audits to identify and mitigate potential compliance risks.
Manage export documentation and submit all necessary files to legal advisors and government bodies for compliance evaluation.
Support customs value reconciliation and ensure all trade data aligns with French Customs Authorities' requirements.
Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives across compliance operations using Lean and P3E methodologies (preferred).
Key skills and experience required for the Compliance Officer role include, but are not limited to:
Master's degree in International Business, International Trade Law, or related discipline.
Minimum of 10 years' experience in a trade compliance or customs role, with significant exposure to the defense or aerospace sector.
In-depth knowledge of:
Export control regulations (EAR, ITAR)
French and EU customs laws
U.S. import/export laws
HTS classification and customs brokerage practices
Experience working with military-grade or controlled components in a regulated environment.
Strong proficiency in MS Office and SAP.
Full professional fluency in French and English is required.
Proven ability to manage complex regulatory documentation, audits, and licensing processes.
Knowledge of Lean principles and the P3E (Plan, Process, People, Execution) approach would be an advantage.
Excellent communication, organisation, and problem-solving skills.
