Our client, a leader in the highways sector, is currently seeking a Traffic Order Maker to join their team. This permanent role involves preparing, drafting, processing, and implementing Traffic Regulation Orders (TROs) and other traffic-related legal orders in accordance with relevant legislation, policies, and procedures. The position is crucial to ensuring the legal enforceability of highway schemes and supports effective traffic and parking management.
Key Responsibilities:
- Draft and process all types of Traffic Regulation Orders (TROs), including permanent, temporary, and experimental orders.
- Ensure all legal procedures under the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, and associated legislation, are correctly followed.
- Liaise with internal teams, elected members, legal services, the police, and the public regarding proposed traffic orders.
- Assist in the consultation and public notice process, ensuring transparency and legal compliance.
- Produce or review technical schedules, legal documentation, and GIS-based traffic order mapping.
- Maintain accurate records of all traffic orders and amendments.
- Support the implementation of highway schemes by ensuring relevant TROs are in place before enforcement.
- Respond to enquiries, objections, and representations related to proposed orders.
- Support the development and review of traffic and parking policies.
- Contribute to service improvements and ensure the continuous development of TRO processes.
Job Requirements:
- Knowledge of Traffic Regulation Orders and relevant legislation (e.g., Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984).
- Experience in drafting or processing TROs or legal documents.
- Attention to detail and strong organisational skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication.
- Ability to interpret and create technical drawings, schedules, and GIS plans.
- Strong IT skills, including use of Microsoft Office and mapping systems.
