Overview:


We are seeking a highly skilled MEP BIM Technician to support the delivery of a major rail infrastructure project. The successful candidate will be responsible for developing and coordinating Mechanical, Electrical, and Public Health (MEP) models and drawings within Bentley OpenBuildings Designer, ensuring full compliance with project BIM standards, rail specifications, and client information requirements.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Produce and manage detailed 3D MEP models and associated 2D deliverables using Bentley OpenBuildings Designer.
  • Coordinate MEP services with architectural, civil, and structural disciplines within a federated model environment.
  • Support the BIM Manager in maintaining and developing the Common Data Environment (CDE) using ProjectWise.
  • Ensure all MEP models conform to the project's BIM Execution Plan (BEP), Employer's Information Requirements (EIRs), and ISO 19650 standards.
  • Conduct clash detection, model validation, and data quality checks using tools such as Bentley Navigator, Navisworks, or similar.
  • Work closely with design engineers to ensure accurate representation of design intent, buildability, and maintainability within the BIM models.
  • Assist in developing and maintaining BIM templates, content libraries, and parametric components for MEP systems.
  • Extract quantities, schedules, and coordinated drawings from BIM models for design and construction deliverables.
  • Participate in BIM coordination meetings, support design reviews, and contribute to the ongoing enhancement of digital engineering workflows.

Essential Skills and Experience:

  • Minimum 3-5 years' experience as a BIM Technician / MEP Technician on large infrastructure or building services projects.
  • Proficient in Bentley OpenBuildings Designer (AECOsim) with a strong understanding of MEP modelling and system coordination.
  • Experience using ProjectWise for CDE management.
  • Thorough understanding of BIM Level 2 workflows and ISO 19650 data management principles.
  • Proven experience delivering coordinated MEP BIM models for rail, transport, or large-scale infrastructure environments.
  • Ability to interpret design information, technical drawings, and MEP schematics.
  • Excellent attention to detail with strong organisational and documentation skills.
  • Effective communication skills, with the ability to liaise confidently with engineers, consultants, and contractors.
