About the Role
We are seeking a skilled and adaptable Quality Engineer to join the Future Defence Support Solution (FDSS) programme within the Logistics Support Centre.
The FDSS team is delivering a transformational, large-scale supply chain management solution that will modernise and integrate the UK's defence logistics network. The programme covers a broad range of materiel, including medical supplies, fuels and lubricants, clothing, and other commercial off-the-shelf commodities.
This role offers an opportunity to contribute to a high-profile, complex programme that will redefine how defence logistics are managed and sustained across multiple domains.
Key Responsibilities
Develop and maintain the Quality Assurance System (QAS) framework to support key procurement and tendering activities.
Produce iterations of the FDSS Quality Plan, incorporating MOD-compliant process requirements aligned to commercial supply chain operations.
Provide expert input and written responses to Requests for Information (RFIs) during the tendering phases.
Review and evaluate supplier quality submissions, producing scoring reports and recommendations to support commercial decision-making.
Analyse industry best practice and lessons learned to enhance the FDSS Quality Management System (QMS).
Define detailed quality requirements for the System Requirements Document (SRD) and contribute to tender documentation.
Essential Skills and Experience
Proven experience in quality management and assurance within a multi-domain or defence environment.
Strong understanding of requirements definition and quality governance frameworks.
Familiarity with commercial and procurement processes within large, complex organisations.
Experience engaging effectively with industry, commercial teams, and regulators.
Desirable Skills and Experience
Knowledge of supply chain quality assurance principles, or a strong willingness to develop this expertise.
Experience developing or managing MOD or defence-related requirements.
Ability to adapt established quality approaches to innovative or novel delivery models.
Key Attributes
Analytical, detail-oriented, and capable of interpreting complex information.
Proactive problem-solver with strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
Comfortable working in a dynamic, evolving programme environment requiring innovative solutions.
Additional Information
The role is hybrid, with regular on-site attendance at Abbey Wood expected.
This is not a traditional quality management role - it requires a strategic thinker who can shape new approaches to assurance and quality within a complex, novel programme.
The FDSS programme will continue beyond the current project phase, offering the potential for extended involvement and professional development.
