Our client in the highways sector, is currently seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Highway Inspector on a contract basis. This role is based with a local authority based in the South East, incorporating both office and field-based activities.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conducting office-based tasks, site-based tasks, and highway inspections
- Investigating enquiries and providing responses on the Council's systems
- Assessing highway defects for prioritisation
- Handling insurance claims and highway encroachments
- Processing dropped kerb applications and updates to the national street gazetteer
- Enforcing highway regulations and issuing notices
- Responding to highway adoption queries and stopping up requests
- Meeting and liaising with contractors, including ordering works
Job Requirements:
- Sound knowledge of highway construction and defect identification
- Understanding of highway asset management
- High level of communication skills, both verbal and written
- Proficiency in using Microsoft suite of products and other relevant software
- Ability to provide own vehicle (mileage will be paid)
Desirable Skills:
- Experience working within a Local Authority Highway department
- Knowledge and application of the Highways Act 1980
- City & Guilds Highway Inspection and Monitoring qualification
- Knowledge and application of NRSWA and/or street work qualification
- CSCS Card
