Senior / Principal Transport Planner - Midlands
Location: Leicester or Nottingham

About the Role
An excellent opportunity has arisen for an experienced Senior or Principal Transport Planner to join a leading consultancy working on a diverse range of transport and infrastructure projects across the Midlands.


This position is ideal for a motivated professional who enjoys technical problem-solving, project leadership, and mentoring others. You'll play a key role in delivering transport planning advice, managing multiple projects, and driving quality across all stages of the planning and design process.
Key Responsibilities


  • Prepare Transport Assessments, Statements, and Travel Plans to support planning applications.

  • Advise on highway and transport planning issues, including access, layout, and sustainable travel strategies.

  • Manage and lead projects, ensuring delivery to time, budget, and quality standards.

  • Develop and maintain strong client and stakeholder relationships.

  • Analyse and interpret transport data, including commissioning surveys and using relevant software.

  • Produce technical reports, fee proposals, and forecasts, and manage project financials.

  • Mentor junior team members and support their technical and professional growth.

  • Contribute to negotiation of highways and transport mitigation measures, including Section 106 and planning conditions.

About You


You'll be an experienced Transport Planner with strong technical expertise, commercial awareness, and the confidence to lead projects independently.
Essential Skills & Experience:


  • Degree in Transport, Civil Engineering, Geography, or Planning

  • Proven experience in transport planning and project management

  • Excellent communication and report writing skills

  • Strong understanding of local and national transport policy and guidance

  • Proficiency in TRICS, MS Excel, and GIS

  • Experience using junction modelling software such as PICADY, ARCADY, or LinSig

  • Knowledge of DfT Transport Analysis Guidance (TAG) and related modelling techniques


Desirable:


  • 6+ years' experience in transport planning or a related discipline

  • Experience using AutoCAD, AutoTrack, or PDS Sign/Line

  • Understanding of active travel and sustainable transport design

  • Previous experience mentoring or leading small teams
