Our client, a leader in drive technology and systems, is seeking a skilled Machinist to join their workshop team in Croydon. This permanent, full-time position offers the chance to work on maintenance, repair, and overhaul projects across industries such as rail, marine, power, oil and gas, supporting innovation and reliability in mechanical equipment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Interpreting engineering drawings to guide machining processes for repairing or adjusting components, using knowledge and experience to determine required tasks and sequences
  • Setting up and operating manual machinery, including lathes, milling machines, drilling, boring, and grinding machines
  • Working to precise specifications, ensuring accuracy and adherence to tolerances using measuring tools like calipers and micrometers
  • Developing solutions to support workshop teams, such as proposing, designing, and producing basic tooling modifications to overcome challenges
  • Supporting overhaul teams with guidance on recovering components to acceptable tolerances
  • Performing day-to-day basic maintenance tasks on machine shop equipment, including daily checks
  • Liaising with production management on job planning and scheduling
  • Carrying out balancing tasks on components and assemblies during overhaul and replacement processes
  • Adhering to health and safety regulations, including mandatory compliance with national drugs and alcohol testing programs for regulated industries
  • Maintaining accurate records of work processes

Job Requirements:

  • Time-served apprentice training or relevant qualification in machining
  • Significant experience working in an engineering environment, with extensive hands-on use and setup of manual machining equipment
  • Strong understanding and interpretation of engineering drawings, including both metric and imperial systems
  • Mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills to troubleshoot issues and suggest solutions
  • Ability to work accurately and independently, with strong attention to detail and a focus on quality
  • Flexibility to thrive in a fast-paced environment with changing demands
  • Good communication skills and ability to work effectively as part of a team, sharing technical issues
  • Commitment to safety regulations and willingness to commute to the Croydon site daily
