Our client, a leading company in the marine sector, is currently seeking a Project Manager to join their team. This can be on a contract or permanent basis.

The role involves leading and overseeing major projects from initiation through to completion. You will ensure compliance with technical, regulatory, commercial and contractual obligations, as well as manage risk and change while coordinating multidisciplinary teams including engineering, fabrication, supply chain, quality, and commissioning.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop detailed project plans (scope, schedule, budget, resources) and ensure alignment with business strategy and stakeholder expectations.
  • Monitor project progress, manage variances, and implement corrective actions to keep the project on track.
  • Ensure deliverables meet technical, regulatory, and quality standards within the ship-building/marine engineering context.
  • Engage with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Provide regular status reports to senior management and the Board as required.
  • Manage customer relationships and expectations, engaging in change control and contract amendments.
  • Identify, assess, and manage project risks (commercial, technical, health & safety, regulatory) and maintain a risk register.
  • Lead change-control processes: evaluate scope changes for cost, time, and quality impacts and ensure proper approval.
  • Ensure project governance standards, documentation, audits, and compliance with public-sector or quasi-public accountability frameworks.
  • Manage a multidisciplinary project team, setting objectives, monitoring performance, and promoting collaboration.
  • Liaise with supply chain and subcontractors to ensure timely delivery of materials, services, and fabrication.
  • Promote a culture of safety, continuous improvement, and excellence in execution.

Job Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering (shipbuilding, marine, mechanical) or a related discipline, or equivalent relevant experience.
  • Proven project management experience in shipbuilding, marine engineering, or a major fabrication or heavy engineering environment.

Salary/Rate:

  • Contract - £400-£500/day (inside IR35)
  • Permanent - Salary dependant on experience plus benefits including a competitive pension scheme and our client's Perk Box rewards scheme.
