The Role

We are seeking a proactive Mechanical Project Engineer to technically support and enhance project delivery. This role reports to either a Project Manager or Contracts Manager and involves a balance of both office and site-based work to meet project requirements.

Duties and Responsibilities

The core focus is to ensure technical integrity and administrative compliance throughout the project lifecycle:

  • Project Familiarity: Become thoroughly acquainted with all project details, specifications, and design documents.

  • Technical Submittals: Collate technical submittals as directed by the Contracts/Project Manager and meticulously manage this process.

  • Information Requests (RFIs): Take responsibility for raising technical Requests For Information (RFIs) and ensuring the RFI schedule/log is consistently kept up to date.

  • Procurement Follow-up: Track and follow up on the procurement and delivery of long-lead mechanical plant items.

  • Drawing Control: Ensure that the site team is always working from the latest revisions of technical drawings.

  • As-Built Information: Mark up 'redline' drawings with accurate as-built installation information and issue them to the design team.

  • Site Attendance: Attend required site meetings and internal project planning sessions.

  • Subcontractor Compliance: Monitor and ensure the technical compliance and quality of work delivered by subcontractors.

  • Variations: Assist the Quantity Surveyor (QS) with managing variations, providing technical justification and backup for changes and procurement decisions.

  • Communication: Manage relevant external correspondence, ensuring the job number is included in the subject line of all professional emails.

  • Regulatory Compliance: Ensure stringent adherence to all relevant Building Regulations, industry Standards, and Health & Safety Regulations.

  • EHSQ Adherence: Comply fully with all Environmental, Health, Safety, and Quality (EHSQ) policies and procedures.

  • Documentation & Handover: Compile the comprehensive Operation and Maintenance (O&M) Manuals, and manage the commissioning and final handover process.

  • System Maintenance: Maintain the company's internal Document Management System.

Candidate Specification

Qualifications

  • A Bachelor's Degree in a Mechanical discipline, or a relevant Trade background combined with an equivalent qualification.

Skills & Experience

  • A comprehensive understanding of the tendering and procurement process is necessary.

  • Working knowledge of standard software, including MS Project and the MS Office Suite.

  • A demonstrable willingness to learn quickly and adapt to the diverse technical and administrative demands of different project elements.
