Our client, a prominent player in the water sector, are seeking a Design Manager to join their team on a contract basis, working on the Northumbrian Water (NWL) AMP8 Framework. This role reports to the Principal Design Manager and involves a hybrid working model, splitting time between the Newcastle project office, NWL Durham offices, design partner offices, NWL sites, and home as necessary.
You will bring experience within the water sector, specifically in Mechanical, Electrical ICA, or Civils disciplines, covering maintenance, design, or capital delivery roles. As a motivated team player, you will collaborate effectively with multiple teams to deliver carbon-efficient design solutions. A thorough understanding of design delivery, procurement, management, control, quality assurance, and BIM to ISO 19650 is essential, alongside a working knowledge of the NEC4 suite of contracts.
Key Responsibilities:
- Identify design scope and deliverables
- Support the development and agreements of design scopes, programme, and budgets
- Manage the allocated design partner and project teams to deliver against agreed design deliverables, programmes, and budgets
- Manage the design contract and coordinate reporting aligned to the Framework requirements
- Ensure design compliance with NWL, industry, and client standards; secure necessary derogations as required
- Hold and record regular design meetings to actively manage progress and coordination
- Coordinate and manage design risk, buildability, carbon, and DfMA workshops
- Coordinate and manage design reviews, technical assurance reviews, and CDM reviews
- Ensure design is implemented and managed aligned to the project BIM strategy
- Support the framework nominated principal design partner
- Be conversant with current legislation, particularly health and safety relevant to tasks
- Promote the business in a professional manner
- Maintain and grow professional working relationships with all teams
- Liaise with the Framework team to support procurement decisions
- Adhere to company governance in relation to design management and project delivery
Knowledge, Skills, and Experience:
- Civil, Mechanical, Electrical or Process engineering qualification and practical delivery experience
- Good organisational skills
- Effective communication and strong stakeholder management skills
- Passionate about improving performance in the sector
- Able to work and learn quickly in a fast-paced environment
- Committed to exceeding expectations with high-quality work
- Previous experience managing complex/sensitive programmes
- Practical experience working with NEC 4 contracts
