Principal Job Purpose
Responsible for: Managing Ground Investigations
Reports to: Company Directors and Senior Management
Direct Line Manager: Discipline Lead
Mentor to: Graduate, Junior and Professional-Level Engineers
Principal Accountabilities
Apply extensive experience in Ground Investigation supervision to support Discipline Leads in preparing scopes, proposals and tenders for both new and ongoing projects.
Assist the Operations Team with planning site works, considering site constraints, potential challenges and resource needs.
Review site-specific Health & Safety documentation-including RAMS, Construction Phase Plans and Permit to Dig forms-prior to review by the Discipline Lead / SHEQ Manager.
Manage and oversee the delivery of large or complex Ground Investigations, including client and contractor liaison, compound set-up, site operations, laboratory scheduling and draft reporting. A thorough understanding of drilling techniques across varied ground conditions is essential.
Provide mentorship to Graduate, Junior and Professional-Level Engineers, offering guidance, troubleshooting support and knowledge sharing.
Support Senior Management in developing a new training programme for new starters and Graduate Engineers, covering soil/rock logging, sampling, testing and ground investigation techniques in line with current standards.
Maintain accurate project information in the company Planner, identify potential delays and take steps to resolve them. Report significant delays to Senior Management.
Prepare and review draft logs, laboratory data, reports, calculations, drawings and associated documents, ensuring they are properly managed and quality-controlled.
Contribute to continuous improvement by proposing innovative ideas and assisting in the implementation of business-wide developments.
