AtkinsRéalis UK Limited is seeking a Component Engineer to join their dynamic team in Derby, on a contractual basis. This role is within the Defence & Security sector, focusing on nuclear programmes, including the UK Submarine programme, nuclear generation fleet, decommissioning, and high integrity structures for new nuclear establishments. The position may offer hybrid work arrangements depending on project requirements.
Key Responsibilities:
- Authoring and reviewing engineering documentation on component design, performance and compliance with safety standards
- Reviewing and approving Safety Justifications, Design Substantiation Reports, and Detail Design Requirement documents for components such as pressure vessels, piping systems, pumps and valves
- Producing and reviewing Component and System Safety Analysis including FMEA (Failure Modes Effects Analysis), System Safety Checklists, and Hazard Reports
- Supporting the project management team to ensure deliverables are achieved in line with the programme and governance requirements
Job Requirements:
- Degree qualified in Manufacturing Engineering or a related discipline
- Experience in engineering design within the nuclear industry or other high-integrity, safety-critical environments. Experience with the UK Submarine programme and MoD standards is advantageous
- Proven experience in component design development
- Awareness of relevant codes and standards governing material selection and performance such as ASME Section III Div 5
- Understanding of in-service maintenance and inspection requirements for nuclear components
- Understanding of the UK nuclear regulatory environment and safety requirements
- Familiarity with design codes and industry standards relevant to the nuclear sector such as RCC-M, ASME, and relevant EN codes
- Excellent communication and presentation skills
- Experience in producing key technical documentation such as process flow diagrams, work instructions, and technical instructions
