A fantastic opportunity has arisen for an outstanding geo-environmental specialist to join the senior leadership team as a Principal Consultant and London Office Lead. This role offers the chance to take on a pivotal leadership position within a growing and ambitious consultancy, leading the geo-environmental service offering in London and driving the continued growth and development of the office.
About the Role
As Principal Consultant and London Office Lead, you will bring together technical excellence, commercial awareness and strong leadership capabilities to deliver high-quality consultancy work while helping to define the strategic direction of the London office.
Key responsibilities include:
Leadership & Management
Leading the London office, overseeing day-to-day team management and operational activities.
Supporting budget planning and monitoring the financial performance of the office.
Playing an active role in local HR processes, including recruitment, appraisals, mentoring, career development, and nurturing a positive, high-performing team culture.
Working closely with senior management to support business strategy and contribute to strategic decision-making within London.
Technical Expertise & Quality Assurance
Leading the delivery of geo-environmental services across London, including Phase I and II assessments, remediation strategies (soil, groundwater, gas), and verification/validation.
Providing expert advice, reviewing technical outputs, and ensuring consistently high-quality deliverables.
Offering support and guidance to colleagues across the wider business, encouraging best practice and upholding a reputation for technical excellence.
Business Development & Client Relationships
Supporting the growth of the geo-environmental service line in London by contributing to business development strategies aligned with organisational goals.
Identifying and winning new opportunities across key sectors such as developers, surveyors, funds and banks, as well as re-engaging with previous clients.
Acting as the main point of contact for London-based clients, ensuring strong relationships, excellent service and repeat business.
Spotting opportunities for cross-selling across other service lines and helping to raise the profile of the consultancy through meetings, presentations, blogs, and networking.
Preparing clear, commercially robust fee proposals and negotiating profitable contracts.
About You
We are seeking a highly driven and experienced professional with:
A solid technical foundation in geo-environmental consultancy.
Substantial experience producing and reviewing Phase I and II reports, remediation strategies and due diligence advice.
Some experience in business development, including building client relationships and securing new work.
Proven leadership and mentoring skills, with the ability to motivate, develop and support colleagues at all levels.
Strong project management, financial awareness and client liaison experience, with a track record of delivering projects on time and within budget.
A collaborative, commercially minded approach and the confidence to contribute at senior management level.
