Our client, a global strategic, environmental, and engineering consultancy, is currently seeking a Mechanical Support Technician to join their team in Shoreham. This role is offered on a contract basis to support a period of high workload from several exciting projects within the automotive and OEM sectors.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assembly of mechanical systems, such as pipework, test frames, and air and exhaust ducting.
  • Fabrication of simple parts in various materials using techniques like jigging, bending, and sheet metal joining.
  • Decommissioning, disassembly, and cleaning of test equipment following project completion.
  • Moving equipment around the site using a forklift truck.
  • Adherence to safety rules and following controls identified by risk assessments.

Job Requirements:

  • Experience in the assembly and disassembly of mechanical components and assemblies.
  • Recent forklift truck training, evidenced by a training completion certificate.
  • Flexibility to adapt to changing situations and requirements with a detailed and methodical approach.
  • Experience in manual machining techniques, including setting and operating lathes, drilling machines, metal saws, linishing and grinding machines.
  • Experience in the use of sheet metal fabrication equipment such as guillotines, rollers, folding, and punching equipment.
  • Experience using electric and gas welding equipment, including TIG, MIG, Oxy Fuel, and Plasma cutting equipment.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and schematics, using measuring equipment such as micrometers, vernier callipers, clocks, gauges, and laser alignment equipment.
  • Flexibility to work outside normal working hours when required, including long shifts or weekend working.
  • PC skills, including proficiency in Word and Excel, are desirable.
