Our client, a distinguished name in the water sector, is currently seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Quantity Surveyor to join their team on a contract basis. This role is pivotal in driving efficiencies, ensuring cost management, and maintaining high standards of commercial analysis on various civil engineering projects.
Key Responsibilities:
Commercial
- Provision of accurate and timely cost and value reporting at project and business unit levels
- Management of cash flow reporting and project forecasting
- Drafting and updating monthly CVR, cost and commercial plans
- Responsibility for subcontract procurement, negotiation and financial accounting
- Liaising with clients and other third parties on commercial issues, including contractual change, claims, and additional payment
- Identifying and realising commercial opportunities while mitigating business risk
- Sharing best practices and advising site teams on cost management and efficiencies
Contracts
- Effectively managing contract and subcontract agreements, primarily IChemE and NEC forms
- Ensuring main contracts align with corporate governance, with risks and opportunities managed in conjunction with the project delivery team
- Procurement and post-contract management of subcontracted works
- Engaging the supply chain with appropriate contract terms and conditions
- Maintaining and building relationships within the supply chain
Processes
- Supporting internal commercial processes by ensuring adherence to timeframes and compliance
- Actively seeking to improve processes and procedures
Key Measures and Targets:
- Accurate internal and external forecasting
- Ability to interrogate and challenge records, reports, and cost data
- Mitigating commercial risk while identifying and realising commercial opportunities
- Achieving profit in line with business unit expectations
- Maintaining deadlines as per commercial calendars
- Producing high-quality commercial documentation
- Fostering and maintaining excellent supply chain, stakeholder, and client relationships

Job Requirements:
Essential
- Experience in the construction industry
- Familiarity with IChemE/NEC forms of contract and understanding of Construction Law
- Experience in commercial management and procurement of subcontractors
- Experience in monthly forecasting and cost analysis
- Excellent communication, numeric, and computer literacy skills, proficient in Microsoft Office
- Excellent organisation and time management skills, with the ability to meet tight deadlines
Desirable
- Membership of RICS or other relevant professional body, or working towards
- CSCS card
- HND/degree (or equivalent) in Quantity Surveying
- Experience in estimation
- Experience working for a direct delivery contractor
- Excellent problem-solving skills and an engaging communicator
