Overview:
The BMS Design Engineer will be responsible for the design, integration, and technical assurance of Building Management System solutions within a rail substation upgrade or new-build project. This role involves producing control system designs, schematics, I/O schedules, and integration documentation to support the monitoring and control of critical substation assets such as transformers, switchgear, cooling systems, LV/HV panels, fire detection, and environmental monitoring.
Key Responsibilities:
Design & Engineering
Develop complete BMS system designs including architecture diagrams, control philosophy, and functional design specifications.
Produce detailed wiring diagrams, schematics, panel layouts, and termination schedules.
Create I/O lists and point schedules aligned with rail asset and SCADA requirements.
Specify hardware including PLCs, controllers, sensors, actuators, communication devices, and control panels.
Ensure designs comply with relevant rail standards (e.g., Network Rail, London Underground, BS EN standards).
Coordinate integration of BMS with existing SCADA systems, telemetry, and rail signalling/control interfaces.
Conduct system resilience and redundancy planning, including fail-safe and alarm strategies.
Technical Assurance & Compliance
Provide assurance that BMS designs adhere to project specifications, RAMS requirements, and rail technical standards.
Undertake design reviews, hazard analysis, and ensure compliance with CDM and engineering safety management requirements.
