Our client, a leading player in the highways sector, is currently seeking a Principal Geotechnical Engineer to join their South West Operations Geotechnical team. With locations in Bristol or Exeter, this is a permanent position offering you the opportunity to lead and inspire a talented group of engineers.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Providing specialist technical expertise to identify risks and shape early solutions for renewals and improvement schemes, in line with agreed methodologies.
  • Developing asset-specific management plans that support decision-making aligned with policies and standards, while delivering value for money.
  • Identifying, prioritising, and managing geotechnical asset needs to achieve business objectives and adhere to governance requirements such as DMRB: CS641 and CD622.
  • Commissioning and overseeing survey works to support asset improvements and renewals, including reviewing and approving technical briefs, reports, specifications, and drawings.
  • Championing the use of high-quality asset data by monitoring performance, driving innovation in data management, and guiding regional colleagues to maintain standards and integrity.

Job Requirements:

  • Degree and/or Masters in a relevant discipline, Higher National Diploma / Higher National Certificate with relevant experience, or equivalent experience.
  • Extensive, relevant, and demonstrable experience in ground engineering and infrastructure works. Chartered or Incorporated Membership of the Geological Society, ICE, or an equivalent professional body is preferred, or demonstrable extensive equivalent experience.
  • Demonstrable knowledge across relevant geotechnical standards, asset policies, strategies, and risk management.
  • A full driving licence with no more than three points.
