Health & Safety Manager (Data Centre Construction)

The Opportunity

We are seeking a highly experienced and proactive Health & Safety Manager to join our team on an exciting, large-scale construction project in Amsterdam, Netherlands.

This is a critical site-based role where you will be instrumental in ensuring all operational activities meet the highest standards of safety and regulatory compliance across the entire project lifecycle.


Key Responsibilities

The successful candidate will manage all Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) functions on site, including:

Compliance & Governance

  • Implement and uphold the company's Safety Management System throughout the project.

  • Develop and maintain comprehensive construction stage EHS plans.

  • Ensure strict compliance with all relevant statutory provisions and current EHS legislation.

  • Verify adherence to the company's PSCS (Project Supervisor Construction Stage) EHS Plans.

Risk Management & Documentation

  • Oversee and support the creation and review of critical safety documentation, including Method Statements, Risk Assessments, Safe Plans of Action, and Permits to Work.

  • Manage and register all ongoing COSHH (Control of Substances Hazardous to Health) assessments.

  • Conduct and document regular site audits and inspections, meticulously following up on all corrective actions to ensure timely resolution.

  • Maintain comprehensive records of all statutory inspections and certifications.

Site Management & Reporting

  • Adopt a proactive, visible approach to managing all EHS requirements on site.

  • Coordinate, manage, and maintain the site induction and training programmes.

  • Ensure project sub-contractors strictly adhere to both project and group EHS policies and procedures.

  • Perform detailed EHS reporting and analysis of key safety metrics, keeping senior management accurately appraised of departmental progress and performance.

  • Ensure that necessary PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) is adequately resourced and available for all personnel.

  • Assist in or lead timely accident/incident investigations, ensuring immediate communication to the project management team.


Skills & Qualifications

Essential

  • A relevant Third-Level Degree qualification in Environmental, Health & Safety.

  • A minimum of three (3) years of proven experience managing environmental, health, and safety on large construction sites.

  • Thorough and up-to-date knowledge of current European environmental, health, and safety legislation.

  • Strong communication and computer skills, with the demonstrable ability to maintain accurate reporting databases and associated documentation.

  • Ability to work effectively on own initiative and possess strong interpersonal skills to drive group-wide safety standards.

  • Flexibility in working patterns when project demands require.

Highly Desirable

  • Previous experience working specifically on data centre construction projects is a significant advantage.
