Senior Environmental Manager | Pioneering European Infrastructure Projects
Location: Helsinki, Finland | Type: Full-Time, On-site
Overview: Join the Forefront of Sustainable Construction
Are you a highly skilled and passionate Environmental Specialist ready to shape the future of mission-critical infrastructure?
Our client, a premier European technology delivery partner with headquarters in Dublin, is the unrivalled leader in providing comprehensive, turnkey solutions for next-generation data centres across the continent. They specialise in delivering projects from initial design right through to final commissioning, encompassing all civil, structural, mechanical, and electrical services.
Currently managing multiple large-scale projects across seven European countries, they are actively seeking a dedicated Senior Environmental Manager to join their dynamic team in Helsinki, Finland.
This is a unique opportunity to embed world-class sustainability and environmental best practice at the heart of multi-megawatt developments, ensuring every project not only meets but exceeds regulatory and corporate governance standards.
Your Mission: Guardianship of the Build Environment
You will be the on-site champion of environmental compliance, strategy, and culture. Your key responsibilities will involve:
Environmental Strategy: Draft and review the Construction Environmental Management Plan (CEMP), ensuring effective integration with site operations, client requirements, and corporate sustainability goals.
Risk Mitigation: Scrutinise all construction methodologies and procedures to identify environmental risks and establish appropriate mitigation measures.
Training & Culture: Deliver toolbox talks and training to embed environmental best practice, covering site behaviour and managing public interaction.
Emergency Preparedness: Identify and implement spill kit provision. Conduct emergency practice scenarios (with H&S and Site Manager), pinpointing weaknesses and driving improvement plans.
Site Protection: Ensure drains and potential watercourse entry points are protected. Assess all onsite discharges, ensuring only clean water runs, and take immediate mitigating actions if needed.
Oversight & Intervention: Provide a visible site presence, overseeing medium-to-high risk tasks. You hold the authority to stop works where environmental mismanagement is identified.
Auditing & Reporting: Conduct site walkovers with the Site Manager, issuing written findings, agreeing actions for non-conformities (NCs) with realistic closure dates reflecting the risk.
Client Liaison: Represent the company for client environmental inspections and meetings, ensuring timely close-out reporting for all findings.
Incident Management: Lead incident investigations and track closure for any environmental non-compliance.
Waste Management: Monitor, record, and report on project waste, promoting awareness around waste streams and minimisation efforts.
Compliance Checks: Audit permits and manage the existing site-based complaints system.
Information Dissemination: Ensure site noticeboards and key hoarding points contain sufficient environmental information for site staff and the public.
Certification: Liaise with the Client LEED practitioner, coordinating evidence and inspections to achieve the targeted LEED Gold certification.
Collaboration: Work closely with H&S and Site Management, providing assistance and involvement in all appropriate client meetings and project decision-making processes.
